Through the usual strange twists and turns of Internet surfing I found myself in a New York state of mind this evening. This black and white video set to Sinatra’s New York New York shows off the city in an up-close, detailed manner without the distraction of color. Seeing the details of the architecture, especially at the tops of buildings, is mind-boggling. Such design elements are seldom seen in today’s modern styles.
And on a strange note: As uninspired architecturally as I and many others thought the twin towers of the World Trade Center were, they are sorely missing in this montage. The absence of their imposing presence has left a void in the skyline, just as the loss of life on 9/11 left a void in the lives of many families and friends.
